7th Grade Writing Assignment

Writing Assignment - A Letter to a Pen Pal
Invent a pen pal from a Spanish speaking country. Your task is to use all the information we’ve learned in the past weeks to write a letter to him or her. Every letter in Spanish begins like this:
                Querido Ricardo, - Dear Ricardo
                Querida Isabel, - Dear Isabel
The adjective querido changes with gender.
Your letter should include the following:
1st paragraph: Introduction
-          Your name
-          Where you are from
-           Your age
-          A brief physical/personality description
-          A description of your salient features
-          What you like to wear
-          What you like to do
2nd paragraph: The People in Your Life
-          The name of two of your friends
o   Se llama – His/her name is….
-          A brief physical/personality description of each of them
-          What they like to wear
-          What they like to do
3rd paragraph: Eliciting a Response
-          Ask about their physical/personality
-          Ask about their origins
-          Ask about what they like to wear
-          Ask about what they like to do
o   Hacer – to do
Here’s an example of an introductory paragraph:
Querido Ricardo,
            ¡Hola! Me llamo Juan. Soy de Georgia. Tengo veintiséis años. Soy alto e inteligente. También yo tengo pelo moreno, ojos cafés, y una cabeza grande. Me gusta llevar camisas y corbatas. De vez en cuando, me gusta llevar una chaqueta. Soy profesor. Me gusta dibujar con lápiz y usar la computadora.

Use the MLA heading with 12 point Times New Roman Font. Make sure all your accent marks are included.

The National Spanish Exam

Later this quarter, the 7th and 8th grade classes are going to be participating in the National Spanish Exam, a nationwide online assessment gauging the abilities of students of the Spanish language. 

The exam is divided into two portions, Achievement (grammar and vocabulary) and Proficiency (listening and reading).
